unable to use icons

version 0.9.7
os: W2K incl SP4

Its not possible to insert a simple Icon (.ico / .xpm) in the ImageList, as ApplicationIcon, as SpeedButton, ImageList .....

If I choose an icon or sometimes if I try to compile my programm, lazarus tell me different errors like:

The Component Editor of class TImageListComponentEditor invoked with verb #0 "ImageListEditor ..." has created the error

"line to short in xpm stream at line 10 column 2

or lazarus crashes or unknown runtime error

How can I use a programm-icon oder a speedbutton icon .... ?
is it a bug ?

ImageList is buggy, please give a search before posting.

Hey you are a Joker I already used the search engine and read also the manual, used google, asked delphie programmer, read in deplhie supportboards ....

OK now I knew its buggy but I dont know is it inpossible or is there a way
