Lazarus 11.10 problem
« on: October 18, 2011, 10:10:44 pm »
Hello all. First of all, thanks for this great opportunity to try Delphi again, after long time.

Here is problem, I have newest Linux Ubuntu 11.10, downloaded Lazarus from Ubuntu Software Center, when I try to open it, I got some error about directories. Also Lazarus is not working properly.

Also added screenshoot, so you can see and help me to get Lazarus working. Tried to find this problem in forum but not so good with this as you see.

If you do not find a solution, as a last thing you can try Lazarus CodeTyphon edition here:

Just remember to run installation script as a root.

I think that the fastest solution would be to simply use another distribution. Ubuntu 11.10 has many bugs and introduced a lot of problems.

I use Mandriva with KDE and it works perfectly. Like Lazarus has been working in all Linux distributions until Ubuntu started breaking things.

If you do not find a solution, as a last thing you can try Lazarus CodeTyphon edition here:

Will the CodeTyphon edition magically work better in Ubuntu 11.10?

If it is a package from Ubuntu, file a bug with ubuntu.

Distributions often adapt paths of packages like Lazarus to their own liking and make mistakes, or only partially propagate some change into the configuration.

Is that just a simple Application project that you are trying to build in your example screenshot? I can successfully build applications on Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, I have not experienced that issue. Did you install 11.10 or upgrade from a previous version?

LazCT installer has succeeded many times when Laz installer failed on the same system (I also know a few times when it failed but it was fixed with complete removal of Laz and installing as root). With Ubuntu 11.04 it helps to use GTK2 UI from login screen instead of Unity UI. No knowledge about 11.10, but you can see lab reports about fixing LazCT installation procedure to work on many Linux distributions:
http://www.pilotlogic.com/sitejoom/index.php/forum/66-linux-desktop-development
I guess it's more a hard work then magic... ;)

IIRC, Classes is part of FCL, so do you have FPC and all its components properly installed (source, all units etc.)? Is the path to the FPC source correct in Lazarus Environment Options?

CodeThypon has the same problems: solution is the following

http://lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,14982.0.html

we are currently working on a patch, but we are new to laz source and it takes a while to get oriented :)

So looks like the only possibility is to disable some menus or fu*k with config for a long time?

Looks like the best way to download for windows and install on that system.

Is Delphi working on Win7 64b?
